Interviewed by Aleksandr answered by Xaphan
Hell-o! How are you? What’s the time in your country now?
Hello, I’m doing alright I suppose. Right now it’s 12:15 am here on the East coast of the United States.
So, go! Tell us, what did you felt, when you’re a new blasphemy child (named “The World, the Flesh & the Devil”) was released?
Let’s just say I was glad it was finished and out. I was also pleased that everything came out flawless with the printing and pressing which has been somewhat of a problem on the past releases.
How I’ve understood, for this record you’re got money from the label? And, please, are you satisfied in Arctic’s job?
That is correct; on every album we have been given a recording budget by Arctic. They have been nothing but firm supporters of this band. They have done much for us and yes we have been pleased with the cooperation we have had with them.
Do you know how many copies of TWTFTD spreading (sold) already?
I do not. I haven’t asked for any solid numbers but have been told it is selling well.
About diabolic propaganda… What is it for you, it’s an all your life or simple a tribute to the style?
This is my life; if I wasn’t doing it in Kult ov Azazel I’d be doing it in some other band or through some other outlet.
For me, this album is played in vein of Dark Funeral (but, as I’ve wrote in a review, your music is more interesting then DF…). But as I’ve read in reviews on your previous stuff, your music is compared with a Marduk… So, what do you think about all this fucking comparing..?
I don’t think we sound like either of them and I don’t understand why these comparisons are made, maybe because we play fast and use blast beats but many other bands do too, it’s not just us and the aforementioned bands. Perhaps it’s the minor chords, which again many bands use or the way we position the harmonies in the songs, but I think we have our own identity when it comes to our music so let those that compare us to this band or that band continue to do so, fuck we’ve had persons compare our past few albums to Darkthrone and Burzum, so in the end the comparisons don’t mean shit and the majority of the time those making them don’t have a clue.
Have you played in some other bands before KOA?
When I lived in Tennessee I played in the a crust band called Faust from 87-90 and then formed a death metal band named Exhume, Exhume being renamed to Coprophagia once I relocated to Florida. Coprophagia was done by 1994. Currently outside of Kult ov Azazel I have been playing bass in Hateplow since 2001.
Six years into the scene… Did you step forth out of USA? And which bands have KOA played together with already?
We have played over the years with Blood Storm, Inquisition, Thornspawn, Absu, Black Witchery, Ouroboros, Krieg, Sumeria, Mayhem, Angel Corpse, Melechesh, Noctuary, Morbosidad, Gnostic, Horn of Valere, Cryptic Winds, Tenebrous, NosVrolok, Devastator, Teratism, Abazagorath, Black Mass, Mictlantecuhtli, To Scale the Throne, Catholicon, Decieverion, Harvist, Dimentianon, Baphomet's Horns, Hate Eternal, Krisiun, Immolation, Deicide, Fleshtized, Divine Empire, Hellwitch, Scorched Earth, Infinitum Obscure, Resuscitator, Morgion, Goat Horn, Thy Flesh Consumed, The Crown, Amon Amarth, Diabolic, Cadaver Inc., Goreaphobia, Unholy Grave, Gorguts, Withered Earth, Incantation, Goatwhore, Vader, Dying Fetus, Cephalic Carnage, Deeds of Flesh, Exhumed, Nocturnus, Deeds of Flesh, Cephalic Carnage, Disgorge, Mortal Decay, Dismember, Kataklysm, Hateplow, Cannibal Corpse and Hibernus Mortis. There’s probably a ton more I’m leaving out.
God, god… this fucking god… I want to ask you, if tomorrow the heavens disperse and down comes this fucking god (which not existing, ha-ha)… do you ask forgiveness?
Are you kidding me? I wouldn’t ask for any fucking forgiveness. What do I need to be forgiven for? I have no regrets about how I live my life, what I believe and who I am. Speaking in hypothetical terms if this was to happen I would spit on the bastard christ and renounce him, his father and their phony ghost face to face.
What music you listen to? Only BM or other styles too? Some beloved band names…
At this point in my life I listen to Black Metal along with 80’s speed metal and thrash exclusively. I also still listen to some death metal, mainly older death metal though, the classics so to speak.
How long you been into metal music?
I have been listening to metal for a fucking long time, at least 27 years or so. I grew up listening to Kiss and Black Sabbath in the late seventies, later found bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest in the early eighties but it was Motley Crue’s “Shout at the Devil” album that eventually paved the way to me finding more extreme and satanic stuff such as Venom, Slayer, Sodom, Destruction, all the great metal that was coming out around the mid eighties and music I identified with. That’s when metal ruled supreme.
Beyond the music… Who are you? Job, families, children…? And how your family’s attitude toward your music?
Besides doing the band I have been running live sound since 1995. Presently I mainly only work when I’m out on the road running sound for Malevolent Creation otherwise I spend 100% of my time and focus on Kult ov Azazel. As for family, I am married and my wife is very supportive of what I do. No kids.
What do you know about Ukrainian’s metal scene (some bands, labels, ‘zines…)?
Not very much other than Terroraiser Zine, Lucifugum and Nokturnal Mortum.
What & when must fans expect from KOA?
There’s no telling at this point. We just finished up a two and half week tour and we are taking a little hiatus. Soon I’ll begin writing riffs for some new material and in the meantime we’re looking to do some more touring.
So, blasphemy Brothers, thanks a lot for your time! Good luck in this fucking war with the blunt sheeps! Some last words?
