Interviewed by Lord Imra, answered by Xaphan

Hail! First of all, we want to thank you for giving us a part of your time to dedicate it to your spanish supporters. I’m Imra, your interviewer, and I might say that it’s an honor for me, to have this great chance to have this moment with you guys. I must apologize because my english is far from perfect (but I’m on the way of the perfection hahaha), but I’ll try to do my best. Well, with who of the band members I have the pleasure to be talking in this interview??

Just me, Xaphan. Thanks for the opportunity to address the readers of Black Dawn.

Past October 2nd you published your new demo song on the internet, Conquer & Decimate, witch, in my opinion, is a fucking great preview ov Destroying the Sacred next Lp. It has been 9 years after “Entering Erebus”… what can we expect from your new work?? And also, the most important thing, what do you expect from yourselves in your new album??

Being that the album is now done it is everything I had expected it to be. Two songs can be found at www.myspace.com/kultovazazel. Others can decide for themselves.

The title from your new work makes me doubt a little bit about the ideological way it’s gonna follow… The new album is going to keep in a purely satanic front, or are you going to develop a little bit more your misanthropic rage against humanity and specially, against monotheism, that you always put in every one ov your songs??

It is geared lyrically towards my hate of monotheism. So you are very accurate in your thinking. The lyrics on this album take a more anti-monotheistic slant rather than a satanic one as on past releases. Lyrically this album attacks all Abrahamic religions, its puppets and slaves.

As an European supporter about your music, I’m in my duty when I make this question… can we expect an European Tour, or at least, a couple of concerts here in Europe to promote “Destroying the Sacred”??

All I can say here is the probability of us making it to Europe is slim to none. In all the years we have been doing this there has been zero interest from anyone in Europe in bringing us over to tour or support a tour. And in all honesty I don’t expect that to change. We have pretty much written off ever playing Europe.

As all our readers must know, you are one ov the greatest bands in US black metal scene in history, that’s why I make you this question: What is your opinion about the US Black Metal scene??

I don’t really have an opinion on US black metal. I stopped paying attention to what is going on within the scene a long time ago. The past six years or so I have focused only to what is going on with us and what we are doing.

And of course, I know it’s an usual question, but I’m curious about your opinion… what’s your opinion about the “health” ov Black Metal music around the planet?? For a lot ov people, Black Metal is suffering the attack from the commercial powers and the money… What’s exactly your opinion that?? Do you think that it’s a problem of the whole scene, or it’s only a matter of some traitors bands??

Although I have no opinion on the “state” of black metal the question in itself is a rather objective one. Depending who you may ask everyone will name different bands they view as traitor bands. Some may even include us on their list. This also depends on age. In many ways I am a much different person now than I was 10 years ago when I first started this band. Back then I followed the happenings through zines and contacts. But these days I’m older, a bit wiser and find other things that are more deserving of ponder rather than rack my brain over things only scenesters tend to care about. I’m more interested in creating music that is an extension of myself, something I believe in no matter whether some else likes it or not. The thing is this; people have to realize that black metal is to some more than music and to others nothing more than a genre.

Well, as the next question, I’m going to avoid a little bit the music questions, because I want to make you a different question: Obama or McCain?? Hahahha, no, fuck… just kidding… I’m affected by the garbage propaganda of our dirty society those days, forgive me... Seriously, the truly question, as everybody knows, you’re a pure satanic black metal band, as you shown during your entire career. But you’re from Florida, a state from US, one ov countries with more christian slaves and monotheism fanatics around the planet. Tell me, how is to have a black metal band in a country like the USA in your opinion?? Do you ever had any kind ov problems with that kind of christian extremism?? Or, in the opposite hand, it’s even more a greater reason to create your music and spread your message than a difficulty??\

Being in a black metal band here in America is no different here than anywhere else in the free world. It’s not like we’re from Iran. We have never had problems in Florida from the religious right. I get asked this a lot.

Keeping with the satanism… It’s very clear that satanism is a pillar in your career, but it doesn’t represent exactly the same for everyone. For example, for me, satanism is more a tool for the offense, than a faith (I’m nearest to the pagan feelings). In the other hand, for a lot of people, satanism is not only a symbol, or a way ov life, it’s bigger than that, a truly and complete faith. How could you define what represents for you the satanism?? What’s exactly the message do you want to spread with your music in general??

I believe Satan is the dark evolutionary force of entropy that permeates all of nature and is the drive for survival and propagation in all living things. Satan is the representation of the qualities embodying rational self-interest, avoidance of oppressive mentalities and perseverance towards success. Satan is the reservoir of power that can be tapped at will.

After 9 years ov pure rage, great music, and a lot ov hate, what’s right now on the horizon of Kult ov Azazel after the recording ov Destroying the Sacred?? A great tour?? Some split?? Did you have plans, or right now are you completely focused on the new Lp??

Right now there are no tours or shows planned however I expect this after the album is released. Also since this was our 4th and last contracted album with Arctic Music we are looking for a label.

Well, as a finish, I only can say that I appriciatte a lot your time by this chance, and I’m sure that you’re going to destroy the record studio in a couple of weeks with your new songs… Good look, and a big Hail from the Celtiberia… The last words are for you…

Thanks for the support and for including us in Black Dawn. Releases and band contact can be made through www.kultovazazel.com.
