What does the band name Kult ov Azazel mean?
Azazel is mentioned in all monotheistic religions as the epitome of all evil, a defiler of humanity and the warring icon dedicated to destroying and corrupting mankind. I think the rest is pretty self explanatory.
I have listened to your tracks featured on www.myspace.com, How did you come about to write something like this?
Each track on there is from a different album and a different period in time. In fact I’m not even sure which songs are up there as the myspace thing is only used as a tool to spread our propaganda.
Are you playing any live shows? Or are you on currently on tour? if so please state where you are or will be playing.
We only have two shows lined up thus far for 2006. We’ll be playing the Sacrifice of the Nazarene Child festival in Texas on June 17th and will be playing Jaxx in Springfield, VA on June 24th.
State All Kult ov Azazel sites and profiles?
www.kultovazazel.com
What is some of the music that you listened to growing up?
As a kid it was Kiss, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Rush, Cheap Trick, Iron Maiden, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, Ozzy, WASP, stuff like that. In my early teens it was Venom, Destruction, Possessed, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Exodus, Slayer, Sodom, Onslaught and pretty much any extreme speed/death/thrash/black metal I could find. In the mid to late 80’s I got into bands like Fang, DRI, COC, GG Allin, Discharge, Conflict, Nausea, Destroy!, Apokalypse, Confrontation, Dead Kennedys, Septic Death, Misfits, Samhain, Pleasant Valley Children, Misery and others from the punk, crossover and crust scene. By the end of high school I was listening to what would become the death metal boom of the 90’s. Stuff like Napalm Death, Carcass, Bolt Thrower, Morbid Angel, Malevolent Creation, Deicide, Suffocation, Pungent Stench, Unleashed, Dismember, you get the point. Then in 1991 I heard Darkthrone’s “A Blaze in the Northern Sky” when receiving it as a promo from Peaceville back when I was doing a zine called Exhume and from that point on I have had an affinity for black metal.
Does religion influence your music or the way it is written?
It doesn’t influence the composition or the riffs but it does when it comes to the lyrics.
Have you ever heard of a Metal forum called www.metalhordes.com? If not you should make a band profile on there. It is a great place to get your music heard.
I have now.
Who designed you bands logo?
Christophe Szpajdel and Serpent.
I know you are from Flordia and there are some GREAT Black metal bands that comes from there. But what influences you to be a Black metal band?
What influenced me personally was hearing Venom’s “Welcome to Hell” and “Black Metal” back in 1984. As for the others you’d have to ask them.
Please state all members names and positions in the band?
Xul is on vocals/bass, Hammer on drums, Necrol on guitar and myself on vocals/guitar.
Also do you have any contact information you would like to give out about the band?
Kult ov Azazel, PO Box 23308, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33307, USA.
Who are some of your favorite musicial artist thats not in the same genre as your band?
Sisters of Mercy, Death in June, Einstürzende Neubauten, old My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, Neptune Towers, Black Flag, MDC, first 2 Motley Crue albums, pre-glam Twisted Sister, early Kiss, Led Zepplin and Osbourne/Dio era Black Sabbath are ones that come to mind.
