Ave! I’ve got to say “The World, The Flesh, The Devil” is an awesome album! Kudos! Who does most of the songwriting for the band?

On this album, I’d say 90% of the music and lyrics were written by me. In the beginning days Xul wrote the lyrics and I wrote the majority of the music but overtime and mainly since “Oculus Infernum” I have written more of the lyrics and still do the majority of the music.

Do the lyrics come first? Does the music come first? What is the songwriting process like for you guys?

With our writing process, the music comes first and then lyrics later. It is the music for me that command the lyrics.

What are your main influences?

Mainly early to mid 80’s speed/thrash/black/death metal and the early nineties black metal. Bands like Venom, Sodom, Possessed, Blasphemy, Darkthrone, Beherit and Mayhem are all huge influences.

The cover art’s awesome! Who did it?

The cover art was done by Josh Bowens aka Nocturath who many know as our previous guitarist who played on “Oculus Infernum”.

What’s your personal favorite song on the new album?

For me it’s “Trampling the Cross” since it is outside of the box so to speak from what people are used to hearing from us.

Any video plans for any songs on the new album?

At this point in time the answer is no.

The Hellstorm of Unholy Legions tour was only through August? How is it so far?

We’ve been back for a week now so actually it is done with. The tour however went very well. The response was great considering it was perhaps one of the first tours in America that consisted of only US black metal bands.

Any fun stories from any of the shows?

None that come to mind at the moment.

Are you filming any backstage stuff for a possible future dvd?

That is something we didn’t do since there’s no plans on a DVD release.

Any other tour plans after that?

There are plans in the works for a west coast invasion in 2006 as well as some one off festival gigs before then but nothing I can disclose at this time.

What is your live show like?

50 minutes of hate, blasphemy and aggression.

Does your set list contain mostly songs from “The World, The Flesh, The Devil”, or your other albums?

The set list consisted of 5 songs off the new album, 3 songs from Oculus Infernum and 2 songs from Triumph of Fire and some nights we even threw in a song from the Order of the Fly days.

Some of the “split” albums you’ve done with other bands – were those songs from your own albums or new songs for those collaborative releases?

Well the first split we ever did with Krieg was all new material recorded specifically for that. The split with Satan’s Blood included a song off the “Oculus Infernum” album but had a Hellhammer cover we recorded to go only on the split. The Kult ov Azazel/Horn of Valere split had a new song recorded specifically for it that we later re-recorded for the new album along with a Sodom cover. So for the most part the splits we have done have all had songs recorded for the splits themselves.

Xaphan was also on tour with Malevolent Creation?

That I was. I have been doing sound for them since 2001.

Xaphan’s also in charge of Kult ov Azazel’s merch?

Indeed I am. Being that the other guys don’t live in Fort Lauderdale and that’s where our PO Box resides it just makes things easier if I take care of it.

Is there anything that I didn’t ask that you want to talk about?

Nope, I believe that’s about it. Thanks for the interest in the band and for the interview. Further information and propaganda can be found at www.kultovazazel.com.
