Interviewed by Eduardo & answered by Xaphan
Hails Xaphan, just an boring question, but since the beginning of the blasphemy at the year of 1999, tell us how was the beginning of Kult ov Azazel, that firstly called just as "Azazel", and the conception of this evil act.
This band was formed out of disgust towards everything. We as people think humanity and it's religions are total shit. Also at the time we were sick of what was happening in black metal, like all the bands trying to be clones of other "symphonic" bands as well as all the techno shit that was starting to find it's way into black metal. We decided to form a band that totally embraced what black metal was all about. So in April of 1999 we formed under the moniker AZAZEL. It would be about a year later that we changed the name to KULT ov AZAZEL.
So lets talk about the first released classic demo called "Order of the Fly", and then re-released as a MCD, you still like this work and think your sound has changes or the musical elements still the same until the first Full length "Triumph of fire"?
Yes, I do still like the outcome of what we did on Order of the Fly. It was our first recording as a band and although it is very simplistic and not so detailed as our new material is I am still happy with the way it came out. I think that recording showed all that we would soon be a force to be reckoned with.
Are you satisfied with the production and work done by "Arctic Music Records"? I myself think "Triumph of Fire" is just an masterpiece, a great old raw feeling and a tremendous cult holocaustic production, I think this cd will be at one of the must unholy evil acts, coming from US lands, and it will put KoA in the place it deserves!!! How do you see this new work?
I am very satisfied with what Arctic Music has done for us, from the promotion to the support they have shown this band. As for the final outcome of "Triumph of Fire" I believe it's the best material that we have written or recorded to date. I think we accomplished a lot with the new album. It holds true to our beliefs and outlook on what black metal is and should go back to being. In other words it is a fist in the face of what is going on within the black metal scene right now.
Still talking about "Triumph of Fire", musically we feel the true intent to make real Black Metal with no fashion and no "Faggot elements" as yourselves said once in some interview I have read. Music such as "Altar of Satan" brings the real black metal alive!!!! You think black metal has gone? Or just people call "black metal" bands that are not inside this? I mean, that female vocals, romantic feelings, symphonic elements etc.. has no place inside BM, this can be other style of music but not Black Metal, you think the great labels, promoting a "cool" image of black metal has infested the scene with fashion gothics and children?
Well that was out intention with this release. To record a total blasphemous album without the use of any electronics. We are part of no trend and wished to make that clear with "Triumph of Fire". You will definitely not find any gay elements or shit like that on our recording, whether it is past or future releases. I am in agreement with you on the fact that female vocals, keyboards and these other homosexual elements making its way into the music should not be categorized as black metal. This is my opinion and others may disagree but honestly I could care fucking less. I remember when black metal use to be pure fucking evil and now it's almost a joke. This has much to do with labels and such promoting black metal as some kind of "cool" music to kids that pick it up just for a rebellion purpose and so on. Fuck these trendwhores is all I have to say!!!
Talking about the philosophic influences of KoA I have read once you said names as: Anton Szandor La Vey, Crowley, Nietzsche, and other and how this people influence the music and philosophic conception of KoA?
These people mentioned really had no inspiration for the forming of this band. It would be more accurate to say that had influence on us as individuals. Many people, things, emotions and ideals have influenced both Xul and myself. So I would say that it's a conglomeration of all theses factors that influence the music and ideology behind this band.
Forgive-me but I have to ask, you has curious mention "Bakunin" too, and well cannot have a clue how a "anarchist" can have any connection with KoA ideas, since you mean as an anti life, misanthropic band! Please clear thinks for me and the readers?
I mentioned Bakunin in any interview because someone had asked what philosophers had impact on my life and he was one of them. I read a lot of Bakunin when in high school so this is why I mentioned him. Anarchism is total chaos and this is in my eyes a good tool to have lying around. You do away with government and religion will follow right behind it. And the only way to get rid of government is through total chaos… anarchy. But let me clear this up right now so this doesn't get out of hand, we are not a political band and politics play no part in what this band stands for or writes about. What I have stated above are my own views having nothing to do with and having no connection to Kult ov Azazel.
Ok, lest talk about anti-christian posture, say your opinion about the weak religion of "Chri$t", besides that you have had any trouble with the church there in US, as some other bands with has, I can mentioned other extreme acts has in US as Deicide, Acheron and others?
I fucking hate religion period. It's a doctrine of weak propaganda conjured up in order to control mindless fucks. It's a complete hypocrisy unto its self. The word of god is nothing but shit in my eyes and the morons that blindly follow it should be herded into shallow graves, which is where they truly belong. We have not at this point had any trouble with any churches or religious organizations such as the bands you have mentioned.
About the North American Black Metal scene, I think it is growing each day, and more people get involved in this with more professionalism, making the scene stronger, which bands you detest?
I don't know man, to use the word scene for what is going on here is a really gay term to use since it only really describes the bands that are really doing anything. The United States is so fucking huge and cities are very far apart from each other which makes having any kind of a scene almost impossible. But I do agree there are some great bands and these are the band that make what you call "the scene" strong. As far as bands that I detest from here goes, I will keep this information to myself. First off there is no reason for me to give any of these fuckers the pleasure of mentioning them in an interview and second off, like the saying goes, keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
Still about the US BM scene you think Compilations as "American Black Metal Assault"? You think the US bands are welcome in Europe or people still didn't see North America as a burning soil for Black Metal bands.
I am of the opinion that any fucking person that shit talks and judges a band from where they originate from rather than for the music is a complete fucking waste of space. This goes for most Europeans. These stupid fucks think that Europeans can only play black metal or that it can come from only cold climates. Well wake up you dumb fucks!!! Black metal is about attitude and ideology, it's about blasphemy and destruction, it's about hate and evil, not about if you were born in (insert you gay fucking country's name here). So to be quite honest with you I don't really give two shits about these cocksucking dolts that claim North America black metal bands cannot play this form of music. All I have to do is listen to bands like Thornspawn, Inquisition, Krieg, Averse Sefira, Black Witchery, just to name a few, to hear that it's very evident that there are many bands here that rival if not crush much of the shit that comes from Europe now.
What are the best 5 best Black Metal albums of all times?
Darkthrone "A Blaze in the Northern Sky", Beherit "Drawing Down the Moon", Gorgoroth "Pentagram", Mayhem "Deathcrush", Blasphemy "Fallen Angel of Doom".
Did you know some about "Brazilian Scene"? If you know which bands you like?
I know of many South American bands but not sure which ones come from what countries. Off the top of my head I cannot say that I can name any Brazilian bands besides the most common ones everyone knows so I will refrain from doing so.
You will play in a fest. January 2002 opening for bands as Marduk and Amon Amarth, how are the spectative for this gig? And you have any plans in the future to make a North American tour, and maybe some overseas appears?
Well this show isn't exactly a fest. It's just we obtained the opening support slot here in Ft. Lauderdale. I'm not sure what the turn out will be if that's what you are asking but expect it to be good. Most shows that come through here do pretty well especially if you a more known band. At the present time we have no plans to tour and don't even know when we will get around to doing an actual tour. We have been playing out of state shows but this is not on a regular basis. But to answer your question, we do eventually plan to tour and will see what we can do to get some shows both overseas and in South America.
Well really thanks for your true words! If I didn't ask something you wanted to answer, or have any comment to make, feel free! The space below is yours!
