Tell us of a small introduction about the Kult Ov Azazel?

Kult ov Azazel was formed in the beginning of 1999 and we were originally going under the Azazel. We released our first self released mCD "Order of the Fly" under this name and soon found out that we were not the only band that had chosen that name. We then changed the name to Kult ov Azazel, reissued the mCD through Blood Fire Death Records, and since then we have released 2 other CDs under the name of Kult ov Azazel. These would be the split CD with our American counterpart Krieg and the newest offering "Triumph of Fire".

Which themes are approached in your lyrical compositions?

All of the themes approached in our music and lyrics come from the feelings and ideologies that we harbor. I do not contribute much lyrically to the band but have done so in past occasions with the lyrics to "Destruction to the Throne of God" and "Altar of Satan". Xul writes the majority of the lyrics but for the most part subjects contained in these are satanic philosophy and occult practices, hatred for humanity, hatred for religion, disgust for the weak and the victory of the strong.

Does he talk more about the CD "Triumph of Fire"?

"Triumph of Fire" is our first full-length release and consists of 11 songs of blasting, nihilistic black metal from the beginning to end. We recorded it in November of 2000 at Studio 13 here in our hometown of Fort Lauderdale, FL. We wrote 7 new songs for it and redid 2 tracks from the "Order of the Fly" mCD and 2 tracks from the split CD with Krieg.

Comments about the Kult Ov Azazel musicality.

We play barbaric misanthropic black metal. We are very inspired by the forefathers of this style such as Bathory, Hellhammer, Darkthrone, and Mayhem as well as being influenced by Destruction, Venom, Celtic Frost, Possessed, Exodus, Gorgoroth, Havohej, fuck man there's many bands that have inspired us. Nevertheless, as far as Kult ov Azazel goes we aim to keep black metal the way it was meant to be. Satanic, violent and hateful.

What do you think of the scene it Extreme Metal Florida in a general context? And which bands would you mention?

There's not much of a scene here. That goes for Florida as a whole. Here in Ft. Lauderdale there are a good many number of people that come out to shows but as an overall scene it's not much of one. Nothing really goes on here outside of shows so the only time you really ever see anyone is at a show. As far as a scene goes with bands the only bands that come to mind are Cryptic Winds and Black Witchery. No other Black Metal bands from here matter besides those two.

What do you know of Brazil?

Since I have never been to Brazil, not too much. I know I get emails from many people from Brazil and Peru and it seems that a lot of these people are into what we are all about. It seems many more people from South American are into American black metal more so than Europeans.

Could you mention which bands you consider of the world scenery?

This question will take forever for me to answer if we got into all the bands I think are great. So instead of that I will just mention what I have been listening to recently and you can draw your own conclusions. These are the albums I have been listening to within the past week: Mercyful Fate "Don't Break the Oath", Celtic Frost "Morbid Tales", Gorgoroth "Incipit Satan", Black Funeral "Moon of Characith", Judas Iscariot "Dethroned, Conquered and Forgotten", Setherial "Lords of the Nightrealm", Weltmacht "The Call to Battle", Primigenium "Art of War", Hateplow "The Only Law is Survival", Black Witchery "Desecration of the Holy Kingdom", Inquisition "Into the Infernal Regions of the Ancient Cult", Malevolent Creation "Envenomed", Iron Maiden "Piece of Mind", Mayhem "Live in Leipzig", Nargaroth "Amarok", Mutiilation "Black Millenium (grimly Reborn)", Infestdead "Hellfuck" and ROK "Burning Metal".

Which books and films do you prefer?

Movies I prefer are horror flicks. Everything from Hollywood to B movies. If it's horror and has a good plot or just tons of gore I like it. My three favorite horror movies are The Exorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Nekromantik. I also like exploitation films and war movies. Books I read are mostly occult related. Stuff by LaVey, Waite, Crowley, Nietzsche, Rand, Mathers, King, and Carroll are among a few. I also read many true crime novels and serial killer books. But when it comes to reading fictional books I can only read ones that can keep my interest which not too many of them exist.

In which countries you did already play? And in which would you like to play?

We have never played anywhere outside the United States and have only played out of Florida once. We'd like to eventually play in South America and Europe.

Which the plans for Kult Ov Azazel future?

We'll be releasing a live CD titled "Black Mass Consecration" very shortly. Once we get back from playing the Sacrifice of the Nazarene Child Festival in Texas we'll go into the studio to record 4 new tracks that will also appear on the live CD. This will be released again through Arctic Music and there's talk of also including live footage on the CD. It's uncertain at this point but we'll see what happens. We'll start to focus on the next full length within the next few months and that is expected to be out sometime in the fall of 2002. Also Crooked Cross Records will be re-releasing our first mCD "Order of the Fly" on 12-inch vinyl sometime in February '02. It will include 2 bonus live tracks and will be limited to 300 hand numbered copies.

What do you make besides music?

For a living I run live sound. I have been running live sound since '94 so that's what I do outside the band. If you ever hear the In Aeternum "Past and Present Sins" CD the last 4 live tracks are my board mix from when I ran sound for them on the European tour with Malevolent Creation, Hateplow and Rotten sound back in February of this year. I actually did sound for that whole tour besides playing bass for Hateplow but those 4 tracks on the In Aeternum are the only recordings that have surfaced from that tour so far. But on a whole I have been doing live sound for almost 9 years so pretty much my entire life revolves around music in one way or another.

Without more questions... I conclude...
