Interviewed by Lord Alastor & answered by Xaphan
Hail Xaphan! Well, could you briefly introduce Kult ov Azazel (its ideology, its influences, its aim...)?
Kult ov Azazel was formed to bring pain and suffering to the masses of religious scum. Our influences stem from many extreme bands over the years and occult/satanic practices. Our only aim is to continue to devastate and destroy monotheism.
Alright, your first full-length “Triumph of fire” is really killer. Are you satisfied with it & with the promotion of Arctic Music?
I thank you for your words. Yes I am extremely satisfied with it and despite the problems with the company that was our distributor, all in all Arctic has been good us and have done a fine job promoting our shit. So yes I am satisfied with them.
You are a member of the Church of Satan. Please, tell me about Anton Lavey’s influence on you (as an individual) and on your music...
LaVey is something I uncovered back when I was a teen and I spent many years reading and understanding his writings. From that point I began discovering other paths and secrets of occult sciences. As for the music I wouldn't say LaVey has had an impact on that, my musical influences stem from the extreme bands of the mid 80's, Venom, Destruction, Possessed, Exodus, Sodom, Bathory, Hellhammer and so on.
In France, most bands claim that the “church of Satan” is a mere pile which only want to make money... What is the situation in your country?
Probably the same situation you have but I don't really talk to people about the Church of Satan. Most the ones I know and do converse with have better things to spend their time thinking about other than shit slinging about the Church of Satan.
Tell me about your upcoming blasphemy, namely “Oculus Infernum”(line-up / concepts / influences / lyrics...). You enter the studio this month, right?
Yeah we are actually recording right now. Oculus Infernum will be 8 tracks, and the concepts behind this are still much like our past recordings. Majority of the lyrics are about destruction, torture, world demise, hate, murder and is going to be one of our most blasphemous recordings to date. The line up will be Xul on vocals/bass, myself on vocal/guitar, Nocturath on guitar/vocal and Goss "The Hammer" on drums. Confirmed songs titles so far are "Invoking the Infernal Majesty", "The Perpetual Demise of the Bastard Son", "Rex Infernus in Excelsis", "The Oracle of Annihilation: Eradicating Sanctimonious Existence", "Revelations Through a Dead Jehovah's Eyes", "Mark of the Devil" and "Oculus Infernum".
Kult ov Azazel has done a lot of gigs. Do you enjoy playing live? Please tell me about your feelings during a show...
I don't know if enjoy is the right word but I do get a release when we do play live. Yes we have done many gigs and it's kind of hard to explain what I'm feeling since I tend to black out and go into my own world when we are playing live. The best way to explain what I feel is hate when I'm up there, it's like getting so pissed you see nothing but red, except I see nothing but darkness.
Usa is known for having a good Black Metal scene. You did a split Cd with Krieg, what other bands do you respect and support in America?
The hordes I support from here would definitely be Krieg, but others are Thornspawn, Averse Sefira, Cult of Daath, Infernal Hatred, Demonic Christ, Xasthur, Burning Winds, Inquisition, Blood Storm, and Gnostic are ones that come to mind.
Are you involved with other projects?
At this point in time no.
What is your favourite band and why? You seem to like Quorthon’s releases (a tribute is planned, am I wrong?), but what do you think of their lastest release “Destroyer Of Worlds”?
My favorite band is Venom. This is the first band I heard that was doing extreme shit back in the early 80's and was the first band to spark my interest. I do also like older Bathory but have not cared for anything Quorthon has released since Blood Fire Death.
I ignore the situation in USA, but in Europe, NS bands become more and more popular, indeed this ideology seems to attract a lot of “frustrated” teenagers. I’d like to know your opinion about this phenomenon...
I don't waste my time thinking about this shit. I am one that has the opinion that politics do not belong in black metal and have had this opinion for many years. Fuck politics and political motivated bands!
Well, your site (www.kultovazazel.com) is really interesting. You obviously consider Internet as a good tool of propaganda tool, right? On the other hand, don’t you think that Internet kills underground little by little?
Yes I consider the Internet a useful means of propaganda. If I didn't we wouldn't use it. It just simplifies things much more with communications and so on. It costs less to send an email rather than make a phone call, especially if it is to someone on the other side of the world. I don't see the Internet killing the underground; it will take more than that. As long as there are ones that understand it and are truly into the underground it will never be dead.
Lastly, I’d like to have your views upon:
- Death metal
- Gothic music
- Heavy Weapons
- Bush (“God bless America” eheh)
- Ben Laden (“Allah ô Akbar”)
Death metal I have been out of for sometime now. There's not much death metal that I find of interest, just the old bands that were dominating the scene back in the early 90's. I'm not quite sure what is considered gothic music, but I can probably say I don't care for it at all. Heavy weapons I find intriguing, esp. war machinery. Like I said earlier I am not into politics so I have no opinion of Bush. The god bless America quote I hate and have always hated. As for bin Laden, fuck him and his religious faction. Islam is no different than all other religions and the fucks that follow it should be wiped off the face of the planet along with all the other religionist that force their beliefs upon others.
Thanks for the answers and your time! You can conclude this interview as you want...
