Interviewed by Cathy & answered by Xaphan

Hail infernal Kult!! How are you Kult?

Hails, I am doing fine.

I need the band history.

Kult ov Azazel started out in the spring of 1999 when Xul (bass/vocals) and myself (guitar/some additional vocals) decided to join forces. We at first formed under the name Azazel and after releasing our self released mCD "Order of the Fly" decided to change the name to what it is now.

What does Kult of Azazel means?

Azazel has through out religions and myths been associated with or affiliated with destruction, corruption, war and non-conformity. We are the group of individuals that continue to spread these ideals through the music we play.

Who decide to name it?

I originally named the band at first. It was what I was calling my own project before I met up with Xul. When it came to us changing our name Xul thought that we should change it entirely. I on the other hand thought that after all the work we had put into making us a recognizable force within the black metal underground that we should add to the existing name.

Any inlfuneces? Can you make an ultimate playlist?

There's a myriad of influences behind this band so instead I will just tell you albums that have some influence over myself through out the years. Some of these albums would be Possessed "Seven Churches", Destruction "Infernal Overkill", Sodom "In the Sign of Evil", Bathory "The Return of Darkness and Evil", Beherit "The Oath of the Black Mark", Venom "Welcome to Hell" and "Black Metal", Hobbs "Angel of Death", Darkthrone "A Blaze in the Northern Sky" and "Under a Funeral Moon", Mayhem "Deathcrush' and "de Mysteriis dom Sathnas", Mercyful Fate "Melissa" and "Don't Break the Oath", Onslaught "Power from Hell", Celtic Frost "Morbid Tales" and "To Mega Therion", Hellhammer "Satanic Rites" and "Apocalyptic Raids", Acheron "Rites of the Black Mass", Exodus "Bonded by Blood", Slayer "Show No Mercy" and "Reign in Blood", Gorgoroth "Antichrist" and "Pentagram", Impaled Nazarene "Tol Cormpt Norz Norz Norz", Havohej "Dethrone the Son of God", and Blasphemy "Gods of War". Those are ones I can think of right now and I'm sure Xul could add a ton more if he was answering this interview.

Is there any organizations that you or the members of the Kult involved? For what cause? How did you find you self about it!

I have ties with the Church of Satan. I found out about the CoS after picking up a copy of the Satanic Bible back in 1984. Throughout the years I have aligned myself with others that are much like myself and have the same views about religion thus my ties with the CoS. But anyways, I came across this book by LaVey and learned from it and overtime have cultivated my own ideas and thoughts using not only philosophies from it but from many other sources as well.

Who writes the lyrics for the band?

Xul writes the majority of the lyrics. The songs I have written lyrically would be "Destruction to the Throne of God" and "Altar of Satan". But for the most part Xul is the one responsible for the lyrics.

Is it all about, Satan?

No it's not all just about Satan. Our lyrics deal with human hatred, antichristian views and occult practices.

Are you Antichrist? Why?

Yes I am anti-christian. I am also anti-muslim and anti-hindu. I'm against all religions because it's a form of weakness that only simpletons engage in. Religion and the sheep that follow them don't live by a single word they preach. Religion is a crutch in life that disillusioned people need in order to get by. A security blanket, a false sense of stability. Fuck them all, the day will come when they will all suffer from their stupidity and lack of self worth.

Triumph of Fire what the hell it means, can you explain it malevolently?

Triumph of Fire can mean a number of different things. It could mean the victory of Satanism over christianity, or the annihilation of all things holy through fire. Many people will read into it differently so I will leave it at that.

Do you cover some songs from your favorite bands? Does it made you challenged?

We have only covered one song in our entire existence. It was the Mayhem song "Chainsaw Gutsfuck" which showed up on the "Of Evil and Hatred" promo. We have discussed covering other songs by other bands which might happen sometime down the line.

Is it true that you're one of the members of death metal band? What band?

Yes, I was added to the lineup of Hateplow as their new bass player back in January right before their European tour.

Do you have some new material?

At the moment we are writing new material that will be recorded in December. It will be 4 new songs which will appear on a CD along with about 8 live tracks that will be released sometime in the beginning of 2002. We will go back into the studio in the spring to record what will be the next full length CD. This is planned to be released in the summer of 2002.

Can you differentiate it with the old one?

Yeah you should be able to differentiate between the new material and old material. We're not going to record another "Triumph of Fire" if that's what you are asking. It will be in the same vein as far as blasting and hatefulness goes but that's our style. But on the new material you will get some slowed down parts and more mid tempo riffs that weren't found that much on the last CD. I may even contribute more vocally to the band as I have in the past.

Who's the best drummer for you in the whole metal scene? Why?

It would be the guy from Mater Tenebra. That fucker can blast like no one has every blasted before. I just recently heard these guys and was floored by the drumming on the album.

Please speak about the current terrorism in the world?

The current state of terrorism in the world has its pros and cons. The pro side of it is that humans are dying and depopulation is occurring which in my eyes is a good thing. Another good point about it is that the US is bombing the fuck out of a muslim state occupied by religious extremist thus killing off thousands, and by the time this is all over I hope millions of muslims. Granted the US is not fighting to wipe out a religion, I still see the death of these scum as a good thing and a progression in the right direction. The cons of this are that in return these spineless religionist are engaging in biochemical warfare in my own country. These brainwashed bastards are also willing to attack without warning in hopes that it makes them a martyr in the eyes of their god, the happenings of September 11 proves this point. In other words these subhumans are killing for god and the sooner they are exterminated the better! I can say that the fear they are spreading in this country doesn't surprise me one bit because, like their counterparts, the Christians are weak and easily scared. Either way, it's got good points and bad points which is the way all things are. Until we wipe out all religions and its hold on the world we will continue to see this happen for years and years to come.

Any comments before we end, again thanks...
